Choosing between solar panels with a smart battery or a heat pump for your home really comes down to your specific situation.
If your house gets plenty of light and you use a lot of electricity, solar panels will be a winner. They'll generate free electricity for you, and with a smart battery, you can store the excess energy for when you need it, especially during those pricier peak times. Anything you can’t use can be sold back to the grid for a nice little bonus.
On the other hand, if keeping your home warm is what bumps up your bills a heat pump could be the way to go. Air-source heat pumps are efficient at heating. Right now, there are also government incentives which can knock £7,500 off the cost of having a heat pump installed. See here for more information.
Both options need an upfront investment but think of them as long-term savers. Your choice depends on a few things, like how your house is set up for solar panels or a heat pump and how you use energy at home. If electricity is your main cost, especially during peak hours, solar panels and a smart battery could save you more.
But if heating is where your costs are high, especially if you're using pricey heating fuels, a heat pump might be more economical.
It might even make sense to go for a mix of solar panels and a heat pump if that suits your home's needs and energy use. A heat pump powered by your own solar power can’t be beaten for saving you money and reducing your emissions.
Getting some free advice from our energy efficiency experts at Metis can really help. We’ll talk you through your options, conduct a thorough survey of your home and give you advice and a quote tailored just for you.
We're working directly with developers and housing associations to help flat owners and tenants enjoy the benefits of green energy. You should talk to whoever is managing your building in the first instance.
Setting up your solar panels and battery storage is a swift affair, usually wrapping up within a couple of days. However, it's common to have scaffolding set up at your place for roughly a week. On the other hand, installing air-source heat pumps requires a bit more time due to their complexity, with the timeline stretching to about 5 days, depending on the size of your property.
Before we come to install, we'll come over and do a thorough survey of your place. This helps us design the perfect solution for you for us to come ready with everything we need. Our installers are experienced and certified, so you can trust that your home is in good hands.
Once everything is up and running, we’ll show you how it all works. We’ll even show you how to use the apps provided. You’ll also receive a full handover pack.
